PA6 (polyamide 6, also known as nylon 6 or novilon) is one of the most widely used and versatile engineering plastic materials. It is a thermoplastic polymer from the polyamide family, known for its high strength, rigidity, toughness, and excellent wear resistance. PA6 is self-lubricating, meaning it has a low coefficient of friction without the need for additional lubrication. Due to its good chemical resistance and thermal stability, it is suitable for numerous technical and industrial applications.
PA6 sheets and rods are available in various dimensions and are suitable for machining on lathes, milling machines, and CNC equipment.
Main Properties:
High mechanical strength and toughness
Excellent wear resistance and sliding properties
Good coefficient of friction (self-lubricating)
Impact resistance (even at low temperatures)
Good strength-to-weight ratio
Thermal resistance up to approximately +100 °C (short-term up to +160 °C)
Good chemical resistance (oils, greases, fuels, weak acids and bases)
Possible moisture absorption (which may affect dimensional stability)
Easy machining and processing
Typical Applications:
Guides, bushings, gears, bearings, rollers
Machine structural components
Insulators and component housings
Conveyor and sliding elements
Parts exposed to friction and mechanical loads
Replacement parts for metal components (lighter, quieter, no lubrication required)
Standards:
DIN EN ISO 1874 – Standard for PA6 materials
DIN 7728 – Mechanical properties of plastic materials
RoHS – Restriction of hazardous substances compliance
REACH – Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals
FDA – Certain PA6 variants are suitable for food contact
